About Song-Kol Travel

Son-Kol Travel is a large team of professionals that started as a tiny family business 20 years ago.
Meet Aizada and Ruslan, the founders of Song-Kol Travel and a model family. This long-standing story began with Ruslan’s parents, ordinary local shepherds who herded livestock. Initially, out of the kindness of their hearts, they welcomed independent travelers into their home. As local tourism developed, this evolved into a family business.

FAQ

Do I need horse riding experience? +
No — we run tours for both complete beginners and experienced riders. Just let us know your level when booking so we can match you with the right horse and pace, or pick one of our beginner-friendly Son-Kul tours.
What's included in the price? +
Guide, horses, meals and camping/yurt accommodation during the tour are included. Transport from Bishkek to the starting point and back is included on most tours — check the specific tour page, as this varies between private, shuttle group and opened group tours.
Is a deposit required to book? +
Yes — we ask for a deposit to confirm your booking (the exact amount depends on the tour), and the remaining balance is paid on arrival, before the tour starts.
What's the best time of year to visit Song-Kol Lake? +
The main season is mid-May through September, when the high mountain pastures (jailoo) are open and the weather is warm during the day. We also run a smaller number of winter tours — ask us if you're interested in a winter trip.
What should I bring? +
Warm layers (nights are cold even in summer), a waterproof jacket, sturdy shoes, sunscreen and a hat. We'll send you a full packing checklist once your tour is confirmed.
What's the difference between private and group tours? +
Private tours are just you (and anyone you bring) with your own guide and schedule — other travelers can join if you're open to it. Group tours (shuttle or opened group) run on fixed dates and are priced per person, sharing the trip with other travelers.
Do I need travel insurance? +
We strongly recommend it. These are multi-day horseback trips in remote mountain terrain, and insurance covering horse riding and evacuation gives you real peace of mind.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule? +
Message us on WhatsApp as early as possible — we'll do our best to move your booking to another date. Deposits are generally non-refundable close to the tour date, since we book guides and horses in advance on your behalf.
